The Reika Institute for Strategic Studies is a private research institute dedicated to Japan's economic security and technological autonomy. We examine the chokepoints, dependencies, and frontiers that will determine whether Japan sets the terms of the coming century or accepts terms set elsewhere.
Our work sits at the intersection of strategic analysis, policy recommendation, and capital origination. The three run in a fixed order — research first, capital last — and our findings answer to no one's portfolio.
RISS is non-governmental; we hold no public office. We pursue the truth as far as the evidence allows and report what we find, independent of any interest, our own included. The standard we hold ourselves to is the quality of the argument, not the volume of it.

An institute that pairs research with capital invites a fair question: does the analysis direct the money, or the money the analysis? RISS is built in the order that answers it. Independent research identifies where the national interest is exposed; policy translates that analysis into recommendation; and only where research concludes that capital is necessary do we call for it. What successful projects return proves out the last answer and funds the next questions across all of our programs, never changing the last.
